The 2009 Rincon Classic

Last weekend was the Rincon Classic surf competition. There were a lot of good 'bros' out in the water, but Kilian Garland took the cake and won the whole thing for the 8th time (I think).

Hyper Crushin

Going out in Ventura can be fun. This Saturday, we checked out one of my favorites Electro- POP bands- Hyper Crush. Now you may want to ask, Who The Fuck Is Hyper Crush? Live and Direct from the Honky Tonk of Electro. Behold the all time greatest 50's Doo-Hop, Electro, Hip Hop Group from the 80's. Three shit-faced extra terrestrials known amongst the elite simply as Donny, Preston and Holly. A couple of real gentlemen and one broad with a steady diet of cotton candy and flat soda pop to calm the nerves.

I was surprised they were playing at Rookies Sports Bar- which is under the same ownership as Dargan's Irish Pub in SB. Anywho! Donny Fontaine rocked the mic, Holly was singing her little heart out and looking fly, and Preston was dropping those (punk rock) beats. Bang Bang made a little appearance and Jenna, Nicole A, and Joey and I rolled 4 deep. I am hoping to get HC at Velvet soon. Damn. Here are some clips from the show off my camera for all you little hipsters.

My Favorite Suicide Girls

This is the first image I have from the Suicide Girls. Initially, I learned about these killer chics (literally) when I watching the footage from Create Skateboards Rumble In Ramona skate contest. I am into hot rods and pin ups, so that contest really intrigued me, not to mention my fascination with the Hesh Law. I saw them, and I was like "What the heck are all these hot pin ups doing at this Hesh party?" And then I realized, they were down, they were down for life, just like Thrasher is down with skateboarding, you know? It made me kind of jealous.Then I found their site, and became obsessed. Once I was set on these chics, and possibly, the thought of one day signing myself up, I started doing more research! And what do you know, Mike Dirt, the king of SB POP, had a book at his house of the Suicide Girls. I started reading it the other day and realized I really am hooked. I can't tell you why I am so facsinated with Pin Ups, hot rod culture, and this new contempory image of what was once a prestinly posed woman from the 1950's, but all I can say is that "I want that hair style" and the look. I am fazing out of the surfer chic- I want this minus the tats. Joshy Dee from Rebel 8 and Mike Giant told me to not get a tatoo and leave my body pure. So that is what I am going to do, I think. For now, I have to be a square. Fuck You Society.

Mike Giant is SUCHA OG

Every time I read anything about Mike Giant, it confirms that he truly is an original gangster. He doesn't give a fuck about impressing people and doing what society tells him to, he does what ever he wants, he does it with style, and he knows exactly how to articulate himself with out sounding like an "artsy kook." He is honest, he is true, he is not a poser, and he is straight up. That is what I love about him.

MG: Gosh, that's harsh, Kurt. First of all, I'm a "grandpa hipster", and it suits me just fine. And after dedicating almost 20 years to writing graffiti, I hope it never dies. And as for track bikes, there have been hip, cocky young men and women riding them around the streets of San Francisco for over 100 years! Look it up. None of this stuff is played out, dead, or otherwise. It's ongoing. You'll see for yourself as you get older. The next thing will simply be a remix of shit from the past, because none of us are really all that imaginative anyway.

This ASR, January 22, 23, 24 in meeting room 288, the first ever "Rip The Ripper" Art Show.
Please come if you will be attending this Spring 09 Action Sport Retail trade show at the San Diego Convention Center.

After much debate, VCJ, AKA Court Johnson (SB Loco) and legendary creator of skateboarding's most famous graphic, The Ripper, has decided to join us by creating yet another Ripper. His Ripper has inspired hundreds of biters & pretty much- the entire trend on skulls in my opinion. The art show is a celebration of the famous graphic and we here at Skate One have invited legendary artists from the skateboarding industry & art world, including my personal favorite, Todd Bratrud (FLIP, CONSOLIDATED, VOLCOM STONE) , Sherpard Ferry (OBEY CLOTHING, OBEY THE GIANT), Michael Sieben (VOLCOM & MANY MORE), Ben Horton (RVCA CLOTHING & MORE), and many many more talented artists. This is something that you will not want to miss.

Vampires?

This weekend I saw the Vampire Flick Twlight.
Edward Cullen AKA Anthony Masen knocked the whole theatre's socks off. I find this whole vampire crazy amusing. I have always been a fan, since the first time I saw Interview With A Vampire, followed by The Lost Boys... Vampires seem to become popular every 10- 15 years, but who knows... that is a guessamate. They were big in the 80's, then Buffy came out...now Twlight, True Blood, and some dumb ass reality shit I saw on MTV. Twlight was good, I was in a bad, sappy mood and it is a die hard cold blooded love story. Funny thing is, the story line is exactly the same as HBO's True Blood. It goes like this- A hot little virigin falls in love with a vampire. Her blood is so sweet that it drives all the vampires crazy because her scent lingers everywhere... so they all end up fighting over her. But her blood sucker boyfriend vampire is absolutely in love with her so he doesn't want to kill her, just a little drop o' blood here and there! So he spends his time protecting her and saving La Virgen from the slu of evil vampires. It's crazy. I think that is why we as humans are obsessed with this fictional (? questionable :) ) character. They are sexy, and they look like humans, case in point. Get some vampire action.

Tea Fire Started By SBCC Kooks

A statement from Santa Barbara City College President Andreea Serban confirmed Thursday that nine of the ten people allegedly responsible for the Tea fire were enrolled at the at SBCC.

She was notified yesterday by the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department Wednesday, the same day Westmont and UCSB officials were apparently told their students had nothing to do with the case.

“We are deeply saddened by this news and extend our heartfelt sympathies to all members of the community and their families who were affected by this tragedy,” Serban said in a statement. “Our students, as with all college students, have personal lives outside of the college. We acknowledge these boundaries and do not oversee students’ personal activities away from campus.”

Speculation started running wild after Sheriff Bill Brown initially identified the group as local 18 to 22 year olds. Later in the same news conference he added that the group was affiliated with a school, but he declined to say which one. Because of Westmont’s proximity to the Tea Gardens, many theorized that Westmont students were to blame.

While this most recent revelation answers some questions, ultimately it will be the students, and not the school, who are responsible for the fire and charged with a crime. Because they have not been arrested, the ten have not been named by law enforcement. The investigating agencies are expected to turn over their reports next week to the District Attorney’s office, which will decide whether or not to file charges.

Brown announced Tuesday that investigators—acting on an anonymous tip—had determined a group of ten had visited the Tea Gardens—in the hills above Westmont—the previous night for a bonfire. They left believing they had extinguished the fire, but more than 12 hours later the hot embers were kicked up by fierce sundowner winds. Brown characterized the peoples’ actions were not malicious, but careless.

Woah, I don't even know what to say about this one. Our community is very strong and is currently working on helping the many families that lost their homes. Several personal friend's of mine houses were lost in the fire. Over 200 homes were lost.
